Description
The ODM Super Sewer is an automatic in-line side-sewing machine designed specifically for on-demand hardcover book production, including photo books, yearbooks, journals, children’s books, and thin textbooks with spines up to 1/2 inch thick. The machine can sew up to 10 books per minute (600 books per hour), making it one of the fastest single-needle side sewing machines available for short-run digital book production. Operation is controlled through a touchscreen panel that simplifies setup and monitoring during production.
The Super Sewer incorporates Back Tack Technology, a proprietary feature that performs an automatic reverse back stitch at both the head and foot of each book block. This back-stitch reinforcement prevents the thread from pulling loose at the ends of the spine, which is a common failure point on standard side-sewn books. The result is a significantly stronger binding that remains intact at the head and foot through repeated opening and closing — particularly important for children’s books and library-bound volumes that experience heavy use.
The machine is self-adjusting for book block thickness and feeds books from a hopper, allowing continuous in-line operation with the ODM Sticker and other components in the ODM production line. A safety guard with hinged access covers the sewing head for operator protection while still allowing easy access for rethreading and maintenance. The Super Sewer is intended for digital print operations, photo book services, and short-run publishers who need the durability of sewn binding without the cost and complexity of traditional Smyth sewing equipment.
