Stomper

Description

The ODM Stomper is an air-operated turning-in machine that forms the hinges and wraps the cover material around the case boards in the hardcover casemaking process. The machine has a working width of 30 inches (76 cm) and is activated by a foot switch, keeping the operator’s hands free to control the position of the case during the turning-in operation. The machine requires an external compressed air supply at 70 PSI.

The Stomper’s turning-in bar uses a climbing action that applies progressive pressure along the edge of the cover material, ensuring a tight and consistent corner wrap across a range of cover materials including paper, leatherette, library buckram, vinyl, and cloth. The progressive climbing motion is particularly effective at forming clean, sharp corners on thick or stiff materials that would otherwise resist manual turning. This results in a professionally finished case with tight, wrinkle-free corners.

In the ODM Casemaking Line workflow, the Stomper receives the assembled case from the Slider, performs the head and tail turn-ins as well as the side turn-ins, and then the case is passed to the Squeezer for final pressing. The Stomper is designed for one-person operation, and its foot-pedal activation allows consistent hands-free operation throughout a production run. It is appropriate for on-demand hardcover book production, photo book manufacturing, and custom cover work in digital and short-run bindery environments.
