Description
The ODM Spreader is the adhesive application station within the ODM Casemaking Line, responsible for applying a uniform coating of cold PVA glue to the top side of the cover material before it is assembled into a finished hardcover case. The unit is equipped with an 18-inch glue roller that applies adhesive across the full working width of the material in a single pass. The thickness of the adhesive layer is controlled by an adjustable scraper blade, allowing the operator to dial in the right coverage weight for different cover materials, including paper, leatherette, cloth, and vinyl.
The Spreader is powered by a 115V, 60-cycle, 1/3 HP motor. The glue trough holds enough cold adhesive for sustained production runs, and the roller system is designed for straightforward cleaning between jobs or at the end of a production session. The unit is compatible with standard water-based PVA adhesives used throughout the bookbinding industry.
In operation, the cover material is passed through the Spreader to receive its adhesive coating, then immediately moved to the Slider for positioning and gauging before assembly on the Stomper. The Spreader’s 18-inch roller width is matched to the standard ODM Casemaking Line’s capacity range, accommodating cases from small formats up to tabloid-width covers. It is also available in a 24-inch configuration as part of the ODM Casemaking XXL system for larger-format hardcover production.
